A recurring bacterial vaginosis infection may affect the results of a LEEP procedure for ASCUS. For about 30 percent of patients that have had BV, they find it comes back with in 3 months. Health care providers will often determine that a longer treatment period of 10-14 days may be needed or they may switch medication. This infection is the most common cause of vaginitis in the United States. Symptoms are not always present although they include a fishy smell, increased or different vaginal discharge, and vulvar itching.
